TUNEUP: TRAINER

Too often intonation training becomes a casualty of shortened rehearsal time. Even to address the subject often causes more confusion in younger students that it is worth. However, no one can argue that intonation is that one quality that separates the great from the good ensemble.

TUNEUP: TRAINER is designed to meet the needs of both teacher and student by providing a gentle but solid approach to beginning intonation training. Since no ensemble can exceed the skill of its' members, TUNEUP: TRAINER focuses on developing the fundamental skills of the individual player, then brings those skills to the ensemble where they are woven into a single, beautiful instrument.

The TUNEUP: TRAINER System provides a Data CD containing two exercises per key transposed for each instrument in a PDF format. The middle or high school director selects a Key, prints out master copies of the two exercises and hands out to the students to work on at home in their personal practice time. Each student is issued a TUNEUP: BASIC TRAINING Audio CD to work with at home.

Each rehearsal begins with the Tuneup Daily Warmup, pairing the student ensemble with the “training wheels” of the Basic Training Audio CD. The students learn, first, the sound of “in tune”, then learn the terminology associated with musical performance such as Scale Degrees, Interval Names, Scales, Chord and Arpeggios.

By addressing intonation on an individual level, the teacher is relieved of the tedious work of stopping to tune chords individual chords and rather focuses on intonation as a whole. TUNEUP: TRAINER provides the context where fundamental skills are developed.

The TUNEUP: TRAINER System consists of one TUNEUP: BASIC TRAINING System, the TUNEUP: TRAINER Data CD and five BASIC TRAINING Audio CD's. Also included is a license to purchase up to 100 additional Audio CD's and an upgrade coupon for the Advanced TUNEUP: BOOTCAMP System if needed.
